Multi Theft Auto's weekly scripting tutorials

Welcome to our weekly scripting tutorials page.

On this page, we will be publishing new tutorials every week. These are tutorials that show you some of the possibilities with the MTA scripting engine and the Lua programming language, explained in an easy to follow step-by-step fashion, accompanied by at least one video of the script in action.

We hope that you enjoy these tutorials, and we hope they will give you more insight to our scripting engine and it's possibilities.

Remember that these tutorials are fairly technical. If you just want a quick look, be sure to watch the video.

Scripting Tutorial 8 - Ion Cannon and Nuke - Wednesday 28 March 2007 (20:49)

Hi, Ransom here. I created this script out of love for Command and Conquer (started it a few months back, it wasn't influenced by upcoming sequel's release! I'm a diehard fan!). Since "Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars" was released for the U.S. today, I wanted to share this tutorial today. C&C3 is the end to the epic story that started in 1995 (12 years ago!), and the C&C franchise is one of my favorite series/games of all time. Needless to say, I have high expectations for the C&C3 storyline. Go get it Command and Conquer fans!

This tutorial will show you how to create an imitation of the ion cannon and the nuclear warhead from the original "Command and Conquer '95" game. I Hope you enjoy seeing some of the more abstract ideas that MTA's scripting system has made possible to implement into MTA:SA!

Scripting Tutorial 7 - Bomb Shop - Tuesday 13 March 2007 (16:18)

This tutorial will show you how to create a bomb shop with the Lua functions. The 4 different bombs in this script are accessed through a sphere (doughnut ring on the round) for cars in the bomb shop, which is located north of the Los Santos airport.

The 4 bombs featured in this video are 1. The remote control bomb 2. Time bomb 3. Engine start bomb 4. Weight bomb (triggers with a # of people in the car)

Scripting Tutorial 6 - King of the Hill Gamemode - Thursday 8 March 2007 (05:10)
We apologize that the scripting videos have not been on time for a month now. Many of the QA members and MTA team are generally busy at this time of the year. We will try to continue giving you new scripting tutorials every week or as soon as possible.

This week's tutorial is how to make a King of the Hill gamemode. The example KOTH script here will monitor a zone (the hill) and give points to a person when they occupy it alone. Every second they remain in the zone, they recieve 1 point. After a certain time limit, the game is over and the person with the highest score wins.

Scripting Tutorial 5 - Text displays - Thursday 15 February 2007 (18:29)

This week's tutorials focuses on Text Displays. Aeron's tutorial last week brushed upon this last week. This week I intend to make it clear about the system of text displays, and show their flexibility.

So what exactly is the script? It's a portion (only a portion, we may show the rest of the script at a later stage) of my Unreal Tournament script. It basically copies all our favourite messages that would appear on screen when events such as killing enemies happened.

Scripting Tutorial 3 - Crazy clothes - Monday 29 January 2007 (13:19)
This week's script shows a random clothes changing system. We'll be setting the change interval to 2 seconds in this example, but keep in mind there is a small loading pause when changing clothes: a larger interval is advised, to avoid disrupting gameplay.

Welcome to the first edition of the MTA scripting engine tutorial series. With our short tutorials we will try to show you how to script in LUA using our functions, step by step, using small code fragments and explaining the functions and logic used in the code. We will also include footage with each tutorial, so you can actually see what all the code does.

Our first tutorial: User selectable warp points.
